The current crop focus lies in corn, wheat, soybean, tomato, leafy vegetables and turf - key products given the urgent need to increase agricultural yields for food, for feed and for biofuel.
Additionally, proof-of-concept experiments have been run on many other crops and traits and have shown the potential for the AMS process to provide solutions for a wide range of plants.
Research is focused on developing consortia to enhance fertilizer use efficiency; abiotic stress tolerance, such as drought, salt, and cold and wet tolerance; and growth improvement, from early vigor to harvestable yield. Future work will involve developing consortia for biotic stress tolerance and metabolite expression. Proof-of-concept experiments showed an ability to enhance metabolite expression and thus sugar content in a plant.
